The Reboot Project® and Intentional Change Theory: The Science of Transformation

Transformation isn’t an accident—it’s intentional. At The Reboot Project®, we don’t just hope for change; we engineer it. That’s why our program is built on Intentional Change Theory (ICT), a powerful, research-backed framework developed by Dr. Richard Boyatzis.
ICT isn’t just another self-help concept—it’s a proven method for personal and professional transformation. It explains how lasting change happens, not through quick fixes or surface-level motivation, but through a structured, deeply personal process of envisioning, learning, and adapting.
Why Intentional Change Theory?
Most transformation programs focus on discipline, external motivation, or rigid structures. They fail because they ignore the psychology of lasting change. ICT takes a different approach. It recognizes that real transformation happens when people are emotionally engaged, intrinsically motivated, and supported by the right environment.
At The Reboot Project®, we apply ICT to help Veterans and First Responders regain clarity, direction, and purpose in civilian life. The process isn’t just about getting physically fit or learning new skills—it’s about redefining who you are and who you want to become.
The Five Stages of Intentional Change in Reboot
- Discovering Your Ideal Self
- Change starts with a vision. Who do you want to be? What does success, health, and fulfillment look like for you? We help Heroes define their own mission—not based on what others expect, but on their own aspirations.
- Understanding Your Real Self
- Transformation isn’t just about the future—it’s about understanding where you are right now. What are your strengths? What’s holding you back? Through honest reflection and assessment, our Heroes get a clear starting point for their journey.
- Developing a Learning Agenda
- Change isn’t random—it’s planned. Once Heroes see the gap between their ideal and current selves, they create a strategic roadmap for growth, including physical fitness, nutrition, mental resilience, and purpose-driven goals.
- Experimenting with New Behaviors
- Real transformation happens through action. Heroes don’t just talk about change—they put it into practice, building new habits, pushing past barriers, and refining their approach based on real-world feedback.
- Building a Community of Support
- No one succeeds alone. The final step in ICT is surrounding yourself with the right people—those who encourage, challenge, and hold you accountable. This is why Reboot Nation exists: a community of people who understand, support, and grow together.
Why This Is Badass
Most programs rely on willpower alone. We rely on science. ICT isn’t just another motivational theory—it’s used by elite athletes, Fortune 500 leaders, and top universities to drive real, measurable change. By integrating ICT with fitness, mental resilience, and community support, The Reboot Project® delivers a transformation process that works.
Bryan Bush, Chief Motivator of The Reboot Project®, puts it this way:
"Growth isn’t about forcing change—it’s about unlocking what’s already inside you. Intentional Change Theory gives our Heroes the structure to transform their lives in a way that lasts. It’s not just theory—it’s the roadmap to the best version of yourself."
If you’re tired of quick fixes and empty motivation—if you’re ready for real, lasting change—then you’re ready for The Reboot Project®
